Mixed media, acrylic, gold leaf and gel pen — 25 original works from an ever-growing collection by Aliona Kosloff, shown one at a time, the way a painting actually asks to be looked at.
Aliona Kosloff paints the way she lives — loudly, joyfully, and completely without a single lane to stay in. Walk into her home and you'll find gilded mannequins beside crocheted blankets, icons beside peacocks, a Dyson parked on a Kazakh rug like it belongs there — and it does. That same appetite for collision runs straight through the work: a Byzantine Madonna one day, a magpie mid-song the next, a Pushkin fairy tale rendered in acrylic swirls the day after that.
Her subjects are never just one thing. A peacock is also the eternity of the soul. A childhood in Australia is also a Russian one. A cat is also Byzantium. Between the gold leaf and the gel pen, the folk motifs and the fine art references, there's a restless, delighted intelligence at work — someone who has clearly decided that a life, like a wall of paintings, is more interesting crowded than curated.
This is only a slice of what she's made. The collection keeps growing — check back for more.
